A 17-year-old Selma man was arrested in connection to a shooting on Memorial Day weekend.
La’Darius Averhart was arrested Monday after being questioned at the Selma Police Department and charged with one count of first-degree assault with a $60,000 bond. He has since made bail.
“We’re glad all of these shooters out here are being arrested,” said District Attorney Michael Jackson.
On May 30, a 48-year-old male was shot once through his left arm and into his stomach on the 100 block of Dunklin Street. The victim was transported to the University of Alabama at Birmingham for treatment.
The victim is still hospitalized but under stable condition, according to Lt. Sam Miller.
Authorities said the motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
“Investigators did a good job,” Miller said. “They didn’t have a lot of leads [but] they kept working it and got a shooter off the streets.”
Jackson said Averhart will appear in district court for arraignment on Thursday.
