The application deadline for the Selma/Dallas County Adult Leadership Class XXIII has been extended.
Interim Director Callie Nelson said there is a goal of 20-25 members for the class but she has only received 11 applications so far.
She said another six people had picked up applications but have not returned them yet.
“We are still trying to get enough people to sign up for the class. Anyone who wants to be a part of this dynamic leadership experience can still apply,” Nelson said.
Applications can be picked up at the Selma/ Dallas County Chamber of Commerce, located at 912 Selma Ave. The deadline to turn them in will be June 28.
Leadership alumni have to nominate class members but Nelson said anyone interested should not hesitate to contact her at (334) 875-3200.
The class is open to men and women ages 21 and older. Those who are accepted into the program must pay a $525 fee for the program. Those who are chosen will have to attend a mandatory retreat on July 15 and 16 at the Alabama 4-H Youth Development Center in Columbiana.
Nelson said those who would like to be more involved in community service and make a difference in Selma and Dallas County should apply to join the program.
“People who take this class can learn a lot. Past students have told me that it opens their eyes to the possibility of what Selma and Dallas County can be,” Nelson said.
The class, which meets once a month from 8 a.m.- 4:30 p.m., takes a number of trips during the program. The class visits schools, the county jail, hospitals and more to get a sense of what is needed in the community. Members will meet for the first class in September. The program will end in May.
