The Selma Police Department arrested an ex-felon in possession of a firearm during a routine traffic inspection.
Marvin Hale, 34, of Selma, was arrested Friday evening and charged one count each of ex-felon in possession of a firearm, third-degree stolen property and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. He was given a $112,000 bond.
“We’re glad another gunslinger is off the streets,” said District Attorney Michael Jackson. “We’re going to also file a motion to revoke his bond on those other charges to keep him locked up.”
Hale was indicted by a Dallas County grand jury earlier this month on unlawful possession of a controlled substance, certain person forbidden to carry a pistol and unlawful possession of marijuana, according to Jackson.
Lt. Sam Miller said Hale was pulled over by a K-9 unit officer for a traffic violation.
“During the course of the [routine] interview, the subject appeared nervous and hesitant to answer the officer’s questions,” Miller said. “He gave the officer permission to search the vehicle after admitting [to a] marijuana joint in the car.”
Miller said the officer discovered a handgun in the vehicle during the search that was reported stolen.
Jackson said Hale will appear in court later this week for a hearing.
