Broad Street will resurfaced

One of Selma’s busiest streets will be getting resurfaced in the upcoming months.
No date has been announced yet, but Selma Mayor George Evans confirmed Thursday that Broad Street will be repaved. The project will be performed by the Alabama Department of Transportation.
“They are going to allocate the money this fiscal year,” Evans said. “They have planned to do it next fiscal year but they have the money and they are going to go ahead and get it done.”
Although Evans didn’t know the dates, he said the work will take place during evening hours so that it doesn’t affect business traffic.
“Once we know the dates, we are going to give [citizens] plenty of notice of when it’s going to start,” Evans said. “It’ll probably take approximately 60 days to get it all done, but it’ll be done at night where it won’t inconvenience businesses and travel.”
Evans said with all of the recent cave-ins and potholes on Broad Street, it’s a much needed project.
Calls for Davey Lyon, ALDOT’s region 65 manager, which includes Dallas County, were not returned on Thursday afternoon.
