In 2019, Alabama will mark its 200th birthday in style. The Alabama 200 Bicentennial Commission will visit Selma next week to discuss what role the Queen City can play in statewide celebrations.
Members of the public are invited to the town hall Wednesday, Aug. 24 at 5 p.m. at the Carl C. Morgan Convention Center. The Selma and Dallas County Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Information will host the meeting in partnership with the commission.
Alabama 200 Bicentennial Commission Director Jay Lamar will lead the discuss on how Selma and Dallas County can participate in the historic event.
“This is an exciting time for the State of Alabama and our region as we celebrate and commemorate the rich history and cultural heritage we have developed over the last two centuries.” said Chamber executive director Sheryl Smedley.
“Please join us at this Bicentennial Town Hall so we can hear your voice and incorporate it into the planning of state and local celebration activities.”
The Chamber has also been working with municipal governments to establish a local commission that will plan and put on celebrations here at home.
