Interim Concordia leader steps down

About less than a month after being named the interim chief executive officer at Concordia College Alabama, Dr. Constance Smith Hendricks has resigned from that role. Hendricks said the resignation is due to “irreconcilable differences in leadership.” She handed in her resignation on Aug. 19 and she said it was officially accepted on Aug. 22.
“I’m very sad about it, but when there’s a difference in leadership strategies somebody has to give,” Hendricks said. “There wasn’t any room for compromise, so somebody has to give.”
The college’s board of regents sent out an email to students and faculty Tuesday announcing Hendricks’ decision to step down.
“On Friday, August 19, 2016, the Board of Regents received a letter from Dr. Constance Smith Hendricks, PhD, RN, FAAN,” the email read.
“In the letter, Dr. Hendricks expressed her thanks to the Board of Regents for the opportunity to serve her alma mater as Interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the past seven weeks. She indicated, however, that the present proposed administrative leadership team was problematic, at least for her. Therefore, Dr. Hendricks has submitted her resignation as Interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Concordia College Alabama.”
Hendricks will remain with Concordia College Alabama as Health Sciences Division Chair.
Dexter Jackson, who was appointed as the college’s interim chief operating officer in July, will continue to serve in that same capacity. The letter said he will serve as “COO/CEO as well as CFO while the board interviews potential candidates as interim president.”
The college is still searching for a president to replace the Rev. Dr. Tilahun M. Mendedo, who stepped down officially on June 30. He had served as Concordia’s president since 2010.
