An Orrville man accidentally set himself on fire Friday night and was airlifted to Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery.
Nineteen-year-old Aaron Tower and another unidentified person went to Tower’s cousin’s house on the 6000 block of County Road 33 in Orrville on Wednesday night, according to Dallas County Sheriff Harris Huffman.
Tower planned to set a car at the residence on fire, but before he could a person from within the house confronted him. Huffman said either Tower or his companion pulled a gun and told the person confronting them to step away.
Tower then poured gasoline on the vehicle, pulled his lighter out and accidentally set himself on fire. Huffman said Tower burned about 40 percent of his body. As of Friday morning, no update on his condition was available.
The car fire was put out by the Orrville Volunteer Fire Department.
Huffman said an investigation into the incident is still ongoing. No charges have been filed.
