Dallas County BOE earns state award

The Dallas County Board of Education recently earned the Alabama Association of School Board’s (AASB) President’s Award.
The award was presented at the Fall AASB District Meeting held Aug. 30 at the Central Alabama Farmer’s Co-Op in Selma.
The AASB President’s Award honors school boards which, as a team, have committed to improving their leadership skills, thus enhancing the school district which they serve.
The school boards who receive this honor must have had at least 60 percent of their members attend at least three AASB conferences in an academy year, and in that same year, have had all members of their boards to meet state-mandated training requirements.
The Dallas County Board of Education is a member of District 2 of the AASB, which is comprised of 13 county and city school systems.
Hattie Shelton, DCS Superintendent, on behalf of the entire school system announced the Dallas County Board of Education was one of four school boards in District 2 to receive this honor.
Carolyn Bates, DCBOE president, received the plaque on behalf of the entire school board.
William Minor, who presently serves as DCBOE’s vice-president, was recognized by AASB and received a certificate for serving as a school board member as well as a member of the AASB for 28 years.
The members of the board are Carolyn Bates, president; William Minor, vice-president; Mark Story, member; Leroy Miles, member; and Mr. Roy Edwards, member.
