The deadline for absentee voters to apply for a ballot in the Oct. 4 municipal runoff is Thursday, according to Selma City Clerk Ivy Harrison.

Harrison said the deadline goes for people planning to vote absentee in person or those planning to mail their ballots in.

Wednesday afternoon there was a line of people outside her office looking to cast their vote or get ballots.

Voters in Ward 1 will have a slight change to their normal routine when they go to cast the polls Tuesday.

Typically, Ward 1 voters have two polling places, one at Memorial Stadium and one at the old National Guard Armory.

Due to the Central Alabama Fair being in town, all voters in Ward 1 will cast their vote at Memorial Stadium.

The YMCA of Selma and Dallas County is the polling place for Ward 2.

Ward 3 voters will vote at the Christian Outreach Alliance Facility and the Dallas County Courthouse.

Ward 4 voters will the Selma Mall and the Woodrow Avenue fire station, while Ward 5 voters will vote at the Rangedale Community Center and Selma High School.

Ward 6 will vote at New St. John Baptist Church and the Broad Street fire station.

Ward 7 will vote at Queen of Peace School and West Trinity Baptist Church.

Ward 8 will vote at East End fire station and GWC Carver Center.

State Rep. Darrio Melton will run off against former mayor James Perkins Jr. to determine Selma’s next mayor.

Incumbent Corey Bowie will run off against Lydia Chatmon for Selma City Council President.

Miah Tolbert-Jackson will runoff against Regina Woods for the Ward 3 council seat. Incumbent Angela Benjamin will run off against Joyce Whitely for Ward 4, Johnnie Leashore will run off against incumbent Bennie L. Tucker for Ward 6, and Jesse Shannon Jr. is in a run off against Jannie Thomas for the Ward 7 council seat.

Two positions are also up for grabs on the Selma City School Board of Education.

Danielle Wooten will likely be certified as board member for district 1 after incumbent Dr. Kirit Chapatwala announced he was dropping out of the race last week. Chapatwala will still appear on the ballot though.

Phyllis Moore Houser will run off against Lola Sewell for the district 3 seat on the school board.
