Roundup: Ellwood Christian wins big; Keith falls to Verbena

Maybe Ellwood Christian was saving all of its touchdowns for this week.
The Eagles (2-6) hadn’t scored since Oct. 9 and had suffered four straight shutouts going into Friday’s night against Autaugaville. Ellwood’s offense woke up in a big way Friday.
Ellwood dominated Autaugaville 66-14 behind three touchdowns from Malachi Washington. In a matchup of Eagles, Ellwood fell behind early before rallying.
Ellwood is now 1-4 in class 1A, region 3. Ellwood is off next week but hosts Isabella Oct. 20.
Verbena hangs on
against Keith
Verbena defeated Keith (3-4) 40-28 Friday night in a game that had major playoff implications for both teams.
The Red Devils (3-4) led 28-16 at the half and led by 18 in the third quarter before the Bears rallied. The loss knocks Keith to 2-2 in class 2A, region 4 standings.
Keith hosts R.C. Hatch next week.
