When the Morgan Academy volleyball team walked off the floor Tuesday, the Senators thought they’d just played their last home game of the year.

On Thursday in Dothan at Northside Methodist, they earned another one.

Morgan Academy defeated Northside 25-22, 21-25, 25-21, 25-15 and finished second in the class AA, region 2 tournament on Thursday.

The win over Northside clinched a home match Monday in the quarterfinals of the Alabama Independent School Association state tournament.

On Thursday afternoon, the Senators lost the tournament championship game to Clarke Prep 23-25, 22-25, 25-14, 22-25, but that game only mattered for seeding purposes.

“They played one of their best games that they’ve played all season tonight,” said Morgan Academy coach Kayla Mason. “Two of the best games that they’ve ever played really. Now, we get to host the Elite Eight on Monday.”

Morgan will host Lee-Scott Monday. The time of the game was not known on Thursday evening.

The winner of that game will move on to the AISA state semifinals at Faulkner University on Oct. 20.

The AISA state championship will also be played at Faulkner University on Oct. 20.
