Summit will address the issue of veteran homelessness

A summit will be held this week to address the issue of veteran homelessness.

The Tuscaloosa Veterans Affairs Medical Center and the Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System will facilitate the discussion.

The summit will be held Tuesday, Oct. 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Selma Convention Center, located at 211 Washington Street.

Staff from the homeless veterans programs at the VA medical centers will provide information about programs to help homeless veterans. The Housing and Urban Development – VA Supportive Housing program combines voucher rental assistance with other programs offered by the VA.

Other topics of discussion at the summit will include emergency solution grants, permanent supportive housing and supportive services for veteran families.

The summit was developed by the Alabama Rural Coalition for the Homeless and is sponsored by the Alabama Alliance to End Homelessness, Family Endeavors, Selma Mayor’s Office, Priority Veteran and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
