Force at work in the year 2016? Is there a Greater Force at work to include the left out? I am not saying there is, but I want to raise the question. I want you to think about it. I want you to answer the question for yourself.

First, I often wonder if there was a Greater Force at work in 2008 when President Barack Obama was elected. Up until then, African Americans had been left out of the U.S. presidency for all 232 years of this country’s existence. It looked like Senator Obama might win, but then it looked like he might lose. Then the bottom of the economy fell out in a truly dramatic way. And Senator John McCain briefly suspended his campaign.  All these things combined to ensure an African American in the presidency. Given this country’s racial history, it is unbelievable that we elected an African American to the presidency before we elected a woman. Was a Greater Force at work to include the left out?

Are we in another moment where a Greater Force is at work to include the left out?  Could 2016 be a special year for including the left out? Let’s look at sports. The City of Cleveland did not have any kind of professional sports championship for 52 years. They were left out. Then came 2016. The Cleveland Cavaliers made it to the NBA Finals again. However, they were down 3-1 against the World Champion Golden State Warriors who had set the NBA record for most games won in a single season. They were led by the unanimous MVP.  In addition, no team in the history of the NBA had come back from a 3-1 deficit. There simply was no chance Cleveland would win. But the Cleveland Cavaliers won three straight games to bring a World Championship to Cleveland for the first time in 52 years. Is there a Greater Force at work to include the left out in 2016?

Let’s stay on sports for a minute. It has been 68 years since the Cleveland Indians won a World Series. Now, they are in the World Series in 2016. For a city that had not produced a professional championship in all these years to win one and have a chance to win a second in the same year is truly extraordinary. Is there a Greater Force at work to include the left out?

Let’s stay on sports for just one more moment. The Chicago Cubs have not been in a World Series since 1945 and have not won a Championship since 1908. But they are in the World Series in 2016 and could win a championship for the first time in 108 years. There are two teams in the World Series that have not won a championship in 68 years (Cleveland) and 108 years (Chicago). Both have been left out for many decades, and one will win. Is there a Greater Force at work to include the left out in 2016?

Now, let’s go back to the political arena.  In the 240-year history of this country, no person has won the presidency without considerable political experience or high military accomplishments. Donald Trump has neither.

Therefore, it could be said that he represents a left out group. However, he also represents the only group to hold the presidency for these 240 years – white men. Is there a Greater Force at work in 2016 to include the left out?

Let’s continue in the political arena. We have never elected a woman as President of the United States of America. That’s 240 years from the creation of this country. Neither has a major political party nominated a woman. But the Democratic Party nominated a woman in 2016. Is there a Greater Force at work to include the left out in 2016?

Let’s continue with the issue of a first woman president. According to 17 U.S. intelligence agencies, the Russians hacked (stole) tens of thousands of emails and provided them to Wiki Leaks. Every day or so, thousands of these stolen emails are released to the media. They reflect unfavorably on former President Bill Clinton, Clinton staffers, the Clinton Foundation and Secretary Hillary Clinton. This appears to be an effort to elect Donald Trump. However, these stolen emails have been overshadowed by the videotape of Donald Trump bragging about his grabbing women’s sexual organs and kissing them without permission (and other matters).

Then last Friday, just 11 days before the election, the FBI sent a letter to certain congressmen concerning newly discovered emails. It created a firestorm. In spite of everything, Hillary Clinton still appears to be ahead in the polls.  If she wins, will it be because a Greater Force is at work to include the left out in 2016?

I am not certain that a Greater Force gets directly involved in sports. Neither am I certain that a Greater Force gets directly involved in the political arena.

But neither am I certain that a Greater Force does not get involved in every arena of life. Therefore, I refuse to take any chances so I am working and praying.

There are various Greater Forces. God is certainly one. The mass of people is another. A third is an idea whose time has come. Luck is another. There are others.  However, in my opinion, the greatest Greater Force is God.
