ORRVILLE — What a difference a year makes for Dallas County.

Andre Hall made the game winning free throw with 15 seconds left in overtime as Dallas County topped Keith 53-52 Tuesday night in a classic between the two county rivals.

After a technical foul helped Keith (1-0) rally in the final 20 seconds of regulation, Hall took over in the extra period. He made three straight shots, including a one-handed floater that tied the game with 50 seconds left, and then knocked down the game winning free throw.

“I just felt like ‘give me the ball coach,’” Hall said. “I felt like I could handle it but I had help from my teammates. They got in the right spot and put our team in the right spot to score the ball. We made some good shots down the stretch and won the basketball game.”

Last year, Keith won both meetings over Dallas County, including a dominant win in Plantersville where the Hornets scored the game’s first 26 points. Tuesday’s game couldn’t have been more different.

“Pretty good for only six practices,” said Dallas County coach Willie Moore.

To win, Dallas County had to overcome a wild finish to regulation.

Hall, who scored 18 points in the game, made a move to the basket and laid the ball up to give Dallas County a 43-35 lead in the final minutes. Keith (0-2) started chipping away with free throws, but still trailed 45-41 when Justyn Pettway fouled out with 24.1 seconds left.

Keith’s Tre Webster was fouled with 20.1 seconds left and then Moore was called for a technical foul. Moore said the call had to do with the Hornets’ substituting, but he wasn’t clear on why it was called.

“After I found out it wasn’t on me, I didn’t care what it was about honestly,” said Keith coach Tommy Tisdale with a laugh.

Webster knocked down three of the four free throws he was awarded to pull the Hornets within one.

Hall was fouled at the other end and he made one of two free throws to put Dallas County up 46-44 with 13.5 seconds left.

Keith ran the ball down the floor and Webster made an acrobatic layup with 2.1 seconds left to tie the game.

The clock expired after the basket instead of stopping, so there was a stoppage to add time back to regulation. Even with time added, Dallas County was unable to get up a shot and the game went to overtime.

Webster made a basket and hit a free throw to give Keith a 49-46 lead in overtime, but Hall kept coming back with shots at the other end.

“I saw a lot of positives I can work on,” Tisdale said. “I saw a lot of things we did better tonight than we did Friday night and that’s all I can ask for.”

Josh Benford scored 12 points for the Hornets, with eight of those coming in the first half.

Webster led all scorers with 24 points, with 12 of those coming in the fourth quarter and overtime.
