The Selma High School basketball teams will be back in action Friday during the school’s annual Thanksgiving tournament.
The girls will play Clarke County at 9 a.m. on Friday in the first round of an eight-team tournament. Win or lose, both teams will move on to play again at 11:30 a.m. The girls’ championship game will be played on Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
“Hopefully it will be a super tournament,” said Selma girls’ basketball coach Anthony Harris. “There’s some good teams in there. I know Sipsey Valley was in the final four and I know Clarke County had a good record last year.”
The other teams in the girls’ tournament are Greensboro, Sispey Valley, Francis Marion, Wetumpka, Keith and Paul Bryant. The boys’ tournament only features three teams, but it figures to be just as competitive. Selma will play Wetumpka at 4 p.m. on Friday, right after the Wetumpka-Dallas County game. Selma and Dallas County will play at noon on Saturday in those teams’ first meeting of the year.
“We are just looking to get some games over the holidays and keep the kids fresh on what they’ve been learning and what they’ve been going through,” said Selma boys’ basketball coach Ronald Lane.
Admission to the tournament is $5.
