The city of Selma employees will have two paid holidays for Christmas this year.
Employees will be given Friday, Dec. 23 and Monday, Dec. 26 as holidays.
There was some discussion at this week’s council meeting whether employees should be paid for Christmas Day, which falls on a Sunday this year.
Councilman Sam Randolph said in past years employees have been given three paid holidays at Christmas.
“They aren’t going to be paid for Christmas Day like they are normally?” Randolph asked. “You are taking a day away from them. Something isn’t right with this picture.”
Council President Corey Bowie said the cost is approximately the same as last year. The city’s first responders were given a 10 percent raise starting Oct. 1. New Year’s holidays have not been approved yet.
