Library holds tea for Christmas

Ladies got a little taste of England on Thursday at the Selma-Dallas County Public Library when Ann Jung and Leigh Johnson came together to put on a Christmas tea.

“They have been working on this tea for months,” said Jan Parker, program director at the library. “This is a true English afternoon tea where we have the real tea cups. We wanted to be authentic. I’m just so glad that there’s so many women that come to the library to fellowship and eat lunch and support our library.”

Jung is from England and wanted to make the tea as authentic as possible. She and Johnson know each other from a book club at the library.

“We both like to cook and like tea, and we decided that we wanted to do something nice at Christmas for the library,” Jung said. “The book group has just been wonderful to me and my family and the library. Everyone here is so generous towards us that we wanted to do a little something for them.”

Becky Nichols, library director, said she was happy to have to two ladies put on such a nice event.

“What Ann brings is not only her talent but her tradition,” Nichols said.

The ladies served homemade chicken gumbo with rice, cranberry scones, banana bread, cucumber sandwiches, brownies and more to go along with the peach ginger tea and the Earl Grey tea. After the event was over, they sent everyone home with a copy of the recipes so they could have their own tea at home.

“You want to have a community that grows together, and if you’re going to live in a community you need to do things where you participate with each other,” Jung said. “It’s fun.”
