Pet photos with Santa to benefit animal rescue

Dog lovers will have the opportunity to have their “fur babies” photo taken with Santa Saturday at Tractor Supply Company.
The second annual event will benefit Wannabe Rescued, a local animal charity.
“We like to do it for the community because it brings the community out to the store, but it also brings awareness of the animals that are abandoned and strayed,” said Lorraine Alexander, vice-president of Wannabe Rescued. “Most people when they’re around their animals, they’re happy and they enjoy it, so just bringing them out in the public with other people that enjoy dogs [is fun].”
The cost for the photo is $10, and Alexander said it can be of just the pet, just the family or everyone together.
“Lots of people like to have their kids’ pictures taken with Santa and also now they like to have their fur babies taken with Santa so we’ll do them both,” she said. “It’s always extremely fun.”
The photographer for the event will be Lucy Battle, who Alexander said is also an avid dog rescuer.
Those participating will receive a printed photo on the spot, along with an emailed version of the picture.
“The people are excited about their animals being there with Santa Claus and the kids that come in,” Alexander said. “It’s really great to see everyone out with their animals and getting along.”
Alexander said the donations go towards vetting the dogs that they rescue.
“Every one of the donations or money we collect go toward vet bills and food,” she said. “It’s primarily to just raise money.”
She said although it’s about raising money, it’s also about teaching the community about the need for rescues and the importance of getting pets spayed and neutered and vetted.
On the Wannabe Rescued Facebook page is a donate now button where people can donate directly through Facebook, or they can send money via PayPal to the email wannaberescued@aol.com or they can send a check to Wannabe Rescued at P.O. Box 725 Selma, AL 36701.
Alexander said anyone is also welcome to donate to the organization during the fundraiser.
The event will take place at Tractor Supply Company Saturday, Dec. 10 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. The cost is $10 for a picture, and personalized dog tags will also be available for purchase for $7.
