17-year-old shot and killed Sunday morning

A 17-year-old male was shot and killed Sunday morning within the city limits of Selma.

Dallas County Coroner Alan Dailey identified the victim as Quadriquis Devonte Bell.

Interim Selma Police Chief Johnny King said in a press release that an officer was already at Vaughan Regional Medical Center for an unrelated incident when he or she was flagged down at the emergency room entrance. The officer was told about a gunshot victim inside a private vehicle outside the ER.

Bell received treatment but was pronounced dead around 4:50 a.m. King said that the preliminary report is that the shooting happened near Martin Luther King Street and First Avenue. The shooting is still under investigation.

Murder is a Class A felony in Alabama and punishable by no less than 10 years in prison and no more than life or 99 years. This is the 15th homicide of 2016 for the city of Selma.
