The Keith Bears (6-6) are the hottest team in Selma and Dallas County.
The Keith boys defeated Dallas County 42-37 Friday to win the Dallas County Schools Basketball Tournament at Wallace Community College Selma. Tournament MVP Justyn Pettway led the way for the Bears with 18 points and 6 rebounds. Tyre Webster scored 13 points and added 5 rebounds for the Bears.
Keith avenged three of its regular season losses in the tournament by defeating Selma in the semifinals and Dallas County in the championship game. The Bears have now won five of their last six games after an 1-4 start to the year.
Bears coach Tommy Tisdale said winning the Dallas County Tournament gave his team confidence and showed them that sticking with the process will work in the long run.
“For us to actually execute and continue to do what we’ve been doing, trust in the process, trust in the system and to watch it come to fruition, I thought that was the biggest takeaway for us,” Tisdsale said.
Keith will play Carver out of Atlanta, Georgia Wednesday at 5 p.m. in the first round of the 2016 Coosa River Classic at Childersburg High School. The tournament will last through Friday.
Selma defeats Southside for third place (boys)
In the third place boys game, Selma defeated Southside 54-42. Jeffery Huff Jr. scored 26 points and made the all-tournament team. Kevin Jones also made the all-tournament team after scoring 6 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.

Jacquetta Dailey scored 20 points to lead the Saints (12-1) to a 66-25 win over rival Southside in the championship game of the Dallas County Schools Basketball Tournament.
