The YMCA of Selma-Dallas County is giving the community a chance to see everything the Y has to offer.
The YMCA is holding an event titled “What Moves You” on Saturday, an open house for members and non-members that will last from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. Every class the YMCA has will be held that day, so that anyone interested can take a quick peek.
“It’s all of our instructors so you get a sample of every class that we offer,” said Natalie Klimis, who oversees marketing and membership at the YMCA. “It’s these little 15 to 30 minute increments of every class that we have.”
The classes will include a vast array of topics. There will be cycling, Zumba, restorative yoga, belly dancing, boot camp, kickboxing and many others. A total of 16 classes will be held in all.
“People want something fresh in the new year and to start a new workout, and we guarantee they’ll make new friends,” said Ann Murray, CEO of the YMCA. “We thought it would be great to have demos where people could observe or participate for half an hour for each class and just get an idea of what the class entails, the level of intensity.”
Ab attack, splash and kick boxing are all new classes and another one, called barre, is expected to start soon. Barre is a horizontal bar at waist level that ballet dancers use.
“It’s a high intensity, low impact workout,” Klimis said.
