The Morgan Academy baseball and softball tournament took place at three different venues and included nearly two dozen schools. Thanks to a lot of supporters, everything went smoothly.
“From an overall aspect, it went great,” said Morgan athletic director and baseball coach Josh Thacker. “We had so much help from other athletes here at the school, it was tremendous. That’s what allowed us to do what we did. If it wouldn’t have been for those extra kids helping us out, we would’ve never been able to do it.”
It also couldn’t have gone any better for the Senators’ baseball team, which won three games to advance to 9-0 on the year.
Morgan won the first game of the tournament Friday against Bessemer Academy 3-0 and then had around a 10 hour wait before its next game. Even the wait couldn’t mess up what has been a perfect season so far.
The Senators (9-0) defeated Monroe Academy 2-0 Friday night behind a no-hitter from Brayton Brown. Brown had four strikeouts in six innings and also had a single and run scored. Bishop Price scored the other run for the Senators.
Morgan won Saturday’s game against Southern Academy 5-3. Sawyer Hopkins had two RBIs and Gunner Henderson and Xavier Green had one apiece. Pitchers Pierson Atchison, Landon Davis and Price combined for three strikeouts in five innings.
Senators’ softball wins first game

The Senators won their final of four games Friday 17-7 over Tuscaloosa Academy. Grace Redd led the way with 3 RBIs. Ansley Smitherman, Ashley Horton and Aris Stevens also had 2 RBIs apiece.
Maggie Colley scored three runs and Hannah Free, Redd, Ashley Horton, Ansley Smitherman, Regan Hewitt and Stevens scored two apiece. Kenzie Horton scored one run. Ashley Horton pitched two innings for Morgan, striking out four and allowing three hits. The Senators lost their first game of the tournament Saturday to Bessemer Academy 20-3.
