After a couple year hiatus, the Selma Exchange Club is once again having its Boston butt sale to raise money for the organization that spends its time giving back to the community.

The club will have its Boston butt sale Wednesday, April 26 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and Lannie’s BBQ No. 2 on Medical Center Parkway will be doing the cooking.

“I’ve been an Exchange Club member for 26 years this past February, and it just means the world … to be able to give back to the city,” said Norm Trotter, past president and current secretary of the club.

The club turned 95 in June of 2016 and Trotter said he believes they have been holding the Boston butt sale for more than 40 of those years.

The club works closely with the Central Alabama Regional Child Advocacy Center by raising money for the organization, but they also give back to other local charities and organizations that they feel could use the help.

In December, they presented five different organizations with $250 checks. The Selma Area Food Bank, Green Street Baptist Church, Selma American Red Cross, SABRA Sanctuary and the Salvation Army Center in Selma were all given the funds to help them with their projects.

Trotter said giving back to these organizations is what the club is all about, and that Selma has always helped in raising the money.

“We have quite a number of clubs in Alabama, and Selma has always been one of the leaders,” Trotter said. “We’ve got a wonderful community and we just try to work together.”

Trotter said only 200 Boston butts will be available, and those interested can contact any Exchange Club member to buy a ticket, including him at (334) 874-9041, ext. 325.

“We’re limited to 200 butts, so we want to make sure everybody gets up with an Exchange Club member and gets a ticket,” Trotter said.

Boston butts are $35 each, and they will be only whole butts this year.

“We just appreciate people coming out,” Trotter said.

“I think they’re really going to enjoy the Boston butts that Lannie’s is going to be cooking for us.”
