Keith, Marion battle to host playoff game

It was a wild Friday for the Keith and Francis Marion baseball teams.
The Bears and Rams were scheduled to play a game Friday at Bloch Park, but Southside and Prattville Christian were already set to play there. Instead, the teams worked it out where they could play at Wallace Community College Selma.
Keith won the game 17-2, meaning a tiebreaker was needed to determine the winner of class 2A, area 7. Since there are no lights on the field at Wallace, the teams moved game two to Bloch Park, but Southside and Prattville were only in the third inning of their second game when the teams arrived after 6 p.m.
“We put ourselves in this position. We went down there [to Marion] and they beat us real bad,” said Keith coach Anthony Lumpkin. “I told them we are going to come out here and get them back.”
Both teams had to wait around over an hour before warming up for their game. As of press time on Friday, Francis Marion was ahead in the fourth inning.
The winner of that game will host a playoff series next week, while the loser will play on the road.
