Former American Idol winner Ruben Studdard will hold his annual music camp this summer at Concordia College Alabama.
The Ruben Studdard Music Camp will take place July 10-21 on Concordia’s campus, with a special reception scheduled for July 9. A final performance will be held at Selma High School on July 21. The camp is for students between ages 12-18.
Auditions for the camp will take place June 3 on the Concordia campus at 10 a.m. Students that want to audition should have a musical selection prepared, either vocal or instrumental.
Fifty total students will be selected to attend the camp at a cost of $250. Students can also win a scholarship to attend the camp by posting a video of themselves performing a 60 second musical number and posting it to the Ruben Studdard Music Camp Facebook page.
“I’m looking for singers and musicians ages 12-18 who love music and want to perfect their skills,” Studdard said on the video announcing the camp on his Facebook page. “I have a couple of special guests that will be dropping through as well.”
Students have until May 31 to enter the scholarship contest and two winners will be selected to attend the camp.
“I’ll be picking two winners, one vocalist and one musician,” Studdard said.
Studdard won the second season of American Idol, the singing competition television series that ended last year.
Studdard was also part of the cast of the fifteenth season of The Biggest Loser, a weight loss competition show, and he has also served as an actor in several TV shows and had an appearance in the movie “Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed.”
Since winning American Idol, Studdard started the The Ruben Studdard Foundation for the Advancement of Children in the Music Arts.
