The Selma Police Department is investigating the city’s fourth homicide of 2017, after a 37-year-old Selma man was shot to death Thursday night.
Alicostro Romero Moore was pronounced dead on the scene after being shot multiple times in what police are calling an ambush.
According to Selma Police Chief Spencer Collier, the shooting happened on the 1200 block of Woodrow Avenue in front of an apartment building at Selma Square Apartments shortly after 11 p.m.
Officers were responding to a call of shots fired in the area.
“An officer upon arrival was informed there was a gunshot victim. Once on scene, the officer stated the victim was not moving or breathing,” Collier said.
Moments before the shooting started Moore was sitting in a car. When Moore exited the vehicle to speak to 20-year-old Anthony Stevenson, who was injured in the shooting, a group of men approached them and opened fire.
“Two black males began to shoot at both Moore and Stevenson. Moore fled on foot, turned a corner, and there was another gunman that shot and killed him,” Collier said. “That’s an ambush style killing.”
Moore had multiple gunshot wounds to the body. Stevenson was shot in the foot. Collier said investigators are still waiting on ballistics, but the weapons used in the homicide are believed to be some type of rifles. The shooting is also believed to be narcotics related, according to Collier.
Multiple people are being interviewed by investigators as possible suspects.
More details could be released this afternoon as the investigation continues.
