The Orrville Farmers Market is giving people the chance to try locally grown food and meet the farmers that produce it.
The market will be hosting a “Farmapalooza, Locally Grown Farm Yard Feast,” on Saturday, June 24 with local farmers and food artisans.
“The Farmers Market in Orrville has a board of directors, and we meet and discuss how we can bring more attention to the farmers in the area,” said Judy McKinney, owner of the market. “During our meeting, it came up that it would be fun to do a farm to table event, but we didn’t want it to be like every other farm to table event that you see.”
The goal behind the event was to have the farmers on hand to meet the people and talk face to face with those trying the food.
“We wanted to include the farmers that were producing the foods that we’re eating and how to bring more attention to the farmers in Dallas County and the surrounding areas,” McKinney said. “The goal here is to bring attention to the farmers and give farmers the opportunity to have an outlet and to meet and greet their customers one on one.”
The event will feature the farmers and food artisans, as well as local entertainment.
McKinney said there has been about 10 farmers and 10 food artisans that have signed up for the event so far, but that she is getting calls every day.
“People just don’t realize how many farmers in the area have food to sell,” McKinney said. “Just the whole farm to table movement is huge and to bring it to a county and make it a reality is just a really great plan.”
The farm yard feast is free for farmers and food artisans to set up, and it’s $20 for people to attend.
The $20 includes a full locally-grown meal, unlimited sampling and entertainment.
The event will be held at the Orrville Farmers Market June 24 from 5-8 p.m.
“I encourage people to just come enjoy the laid-back atmosphere and discover what really good farm fresh food is all about,” McKinney said.
