EDITORIAL: Nominations needed for teacher feature
Published 5:14 pm Saturday, August 12, 2017
Earlier this year we started to feature a teacher each week from the Selma City and Dallas County school systems. We started this as a way to highlight teachers in our community that are doing a good job in educating the children in our area.
With school being back in session, we are bringing the story back to the newspaper. Our first Teacher of the Week is in this edition and features Selma High School Band Director Brandon Williams. Williams is just the first of many teachers that we would like to tell the community about for the 2017-2018 school year. Last school year, we took nominations from principals at different schools around the area, and this school year, we want the community’s involvement in the nomination process as well. It is great to get recommendations from principals because they work with these teachers on a daily basis, but it would also be great to get nominations from parents in the community.
That’s why we are asking for help from our readers. Anyone that wants to nominate a teacher can do so by sending an email to news@selmatimesjournal.com. The email should include the teacher’s name, what school they teach at and a reason why they should be chosen as the Teacher of the Week. We can’t wait to hear from the community and tell those teachers’ stories.
