The YMCA of Selma Dallas County has opened basketball and cheerleading registration for the upcoming season.
Basketball registration for kids in kindergarten through sixth grade will be open until Nov. 11.
The registration fee is $45 for members and $65 for non-members. According to program director Vanessa Felts, the kids must be in the sixth grade by Oct. 1, and cannot turn 13 before Aug. 1, 2018 in order to participate in this year’s league.
Each player is required to go through a player evaluation in order to be assigned to a team.
Player evaluations for kindergarteners through fourth graders will be on Nov. 16, at 6 p.m. The evaluations for the older players will be held on Nov. 18 at 9 a.m., according to program director Vanessa Felts.
“We might have six teams in each age division because it was such a large program last year,” she said. “That’s why I went ahead and opened registration, so I could see what my numbers look like.”
The schedule hasn’t been built yet, but practice is set to begin on Nov. 28 will run twice a weak.
Last year, more than 100 players participated in the YMCA basketball league, according to Felts.
There will also be a cheer leading team for each basketball team.
Registration for cheer is for ages 5-12 years old. The fees are $90 for members and $110 for non-members, and that includes the uniforms, according to Felts.
Cheer leading registration ends on Oct. 28.
