The Selma chapter of the Delta Waterfowl Foundation is having its second fundraising banquet on Thursday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. in the Carl Morgan Convention Center.
The annual fundraiser will begin with a cocktail hour and feature a live auction and raffle for various prizes. The dinner will be catered by Hancocks Barbeque. In 2016, a total of 13 shotguns, rifles and pistols were auctioned off and given as prizes.
“There’ll be a live auction, and there will be a raffle for fire arms and other nice products,” committee member Chris Griffin said.
Information on tickets for the fundraiser can be found on the group’s Facebook page (Delta Waterfowl- Riverbend Chapter). A youth ticket costs $15, single ticket costs $50 and $65 for a couple’s ticket. There are four sponsorship levels at $400, $800, $1,500 and $3,000 for the event.
There isn’t a set fundraising goal, but the proceeds from the event will be sent to the national organization, which in turn will provide the chapter with its share of funds to go towards community engagement, according to committee head Tripp Bowie.
“They send a large chunk of what we raise back to our local chapter to spend how we see fit as long as it promotes community,” Bowie said. “This year we built a lot of bird houses. We gave the Boy Scouts, one of the groups around Selma, all the cut wood and they’re assembling them for us as we speak.”
Recently, the Selma chapter donated materials for the local Boy Scouts to build duck boxes for nesting ducks. The Delta Waterfowl Foundation “is a conservation group working to produce ducks and secure the future of waterfowling in North America.”
“This year we’re expecting around 200 people coming to the banquet,” Bowie said.
