The Meadoview Christian Trojans volleyball team has made it to the Alabama Christian Education Association state playoffs and will compete in the double elimination tournament this Friday at Oxford High School in Oxford.
The Trojans finished second in the Region B Area1 standings behind Tuscaloosa with a 7-3 record.
Meadowview defeated Clay County in straight sets to advance to the state playoffs, according to head coach Tim Burton.
“The team is feeling pretty excited,” he said. “They know they got a shot if they play right. We’re trying to practice up this week so we’re ready for it.”
The Trojans will face Tabernacle, the top team from Region A Area2, on Friday, Oct. 20 at 3:30 p.m. in the first round of the playoffs.
“We’ll play at least two on Friday,” Burton said. “If we lose both of them, then we’re done. IF we win one of them, we’ll play a third one Friday and come back on Saturday to finish the tournament.”
According to Burton, the Trojans have made it to the state tournament each year they’ve been a part of the ACEA. One year, the team finished third in the state.
Throughout the season, Burton’s team has shown improvement in their ability to handle the ball, play their positions and read the opponents offense.
“It’s a good group of girls, and they all want to play volleyball,” Burton said. “I think we can play pretty good as long as we stay within ourselves.”
