Letter to the Editor: We can accomplish more together

Dear Editor,
Serving as president of the Selma City Council is a humbling experience that I never will take for granted. Leadership requires galvanizing a group for the common good not based on personalities, attitudes or favor.
I seek to provide direction through consensus building. In this way, everyone’s opinion is honored as we work on behalf of the citizens of Selma. In the midst of challenging times, it is extremely important that city leaders work as a team to propel this city to greater heights.
As leaders, we need to examine our heads, hearts and objectives. In November of last year, this administration was given the charge to address lingering problems, such as infrastructure, public safety, economic development and code enforcement.
Working closely with the Economic Development Authority, the Selma-Dallas Chamber of Commerce and others, we are seeking to address important quality of life issues.
Time is of the essence, and we must “learn to live together as brothers or we will perish together as fools.” We have a great city and can become a greater city if we are united in our efforts to move our city forward.

Council President
