Mary Hutchings Blanton

Mary Hutchings Blanton, 92, a native of Selma, passed away on Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, in Selma. Survivors include two sons, Barry Scott Blanton of Selma, John Hutchings Blanton and his wife, Deena Tyler Blanton of Mobile; and a daughter, Margaret Blanton Colley of Prattville. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Louis Carl Colley; and three granddaughters, Mary Frances Colley, Julia Claiborne Colley Rooks and Elizabeth Greer Colley, all of Prattville; nieces, Judy Hutchings Berneske of Birmingham and Jane Hutchings Purcell and husband Mel Purcell of Nashville, Tennessee.
Mrs. Blanton was preceded in death by husband of 60-plus years, John H. Blanton; her father, Frank William Hutchings Sr.; and her mother, Hontas Cammack Hutchings; and brother, Frank W. Hutchings Jr.
Mary was born Nov. 16,1925, in Selma. Mary was part of the inaugural class of Parish High School and later graduated from same. She later earned her degree in history from Huntington College. Mary was a Member of the Church Street United Methodist Church. Mrs. Blanton was also a member of the Selma Charity League and Garden Club.
Visitation will be held at the Church Street United Methodist Church in the Calhoun Parlor at 1 p.m. on Sunday with Graveside services being held at the New Live Oak Cemetery at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Lance Eiland of Church Street United Methodist Church officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home Directing.
The family requests Memorial Gifts be made to Church Street United Methodist Church, Easter Seals United Cerebral Palsy, The Selma Public Library or to a charity of choice.
