A 40-year-old Orrville man is behind bars after allegedly shooting another man multiple times after an argument over a car Saturday morning.
According to Capt. Mike Granthum with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department, Jimmie Powell has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly shooting 33-year-old Darrius Irby multiple times.
The shooting happened Saturday around 11:20 a.m. on County Road 341 in Orrville after an argument between Powell and Irby.
“Mr. Irby was working on Jimmie’s car and had it for a little while, and they got in some type of argument. We don’t know if it was over the price or how long he had it or whatever,” Granthum said.
“The next thing you know Mr. Powell pulls out a pistol and fires at Mr. Irby.”
Powell allegedly shot Irby three times with a .357 pistol. Granthum said Irby was shot at what appears to be point-blank range in the head, in the chest and in the forearm.
Granthum described Irby’s injuries as life threatening. After the shooting, Powell allegedly fled the scene.
“He got in his truck and left. We were able to take him into custody a short time after that. He was located at a residence,” Granthum said.
He was booked into the Dallas County Jail on a $60,000 bond. According to an arrest report from the jail, Powell made bond.
Granthum said the department was still waiting to hear back from the hospital for an update on Irby’s condition.
