Meadowview baseball clinches playoff spot

The Meadowview Christian Trojans clinched a spot in the playoffs Thursday afternoon after winning game two against Victory Christian 17-0.
“We played a good, solid ball game,” Meadowview head coach Scott Gunter said. “It feels good to know you have a playoff spot clinched.”
The Trojans scored 11 runs in the first inning and played strong defensively to back up their pitchers.
The offense benefitted from reaching base on walks 11 times in the ball game. The Trojans picked up two RBI’s on bases loaded walks, and timely hits did the rest of the damage.
Jeremy Lee led off the third inning with a home run to jump start a six-run inning to expand the lead.
The pitching staff for game two didn’t burn through the lineup like Lee did in game one, but the Trojans defense made the plays to keep Victory off the scoreboard.
Alex Colquitt started the game for the Trojans, and was relieved by Garrett Brech and Chambers McGilberry for the combined shutout.
The shutout was under threat in the bottom of the third inning when Victory had the bases loaded with only one out.
The Trojans got the force out at the plate on a groundball to the pitcher to preserve the shutout, and McGilberry struck out the final batter to end the game.
“We just played good defense, and had solid pitching,” Gunter said.
The Trojans next game is on Monday at New Life Christian.
The team has a 12-2 record and hasn’t lost to a team in its region yet this season.
Even though the playoff spot is locked in, the team is focused on finishing the season strong.
