The 2018 AHSAA softball area tournaments begin Friday, and three local teams will have the opportunities to extend their season.
Dallas County, Selma and Southside High Schools will all begin their respective area tournaments on the road.
The Dallas County Lady Hornets (7-4) finished second in Class 5A Area 7 with a 2-2 area record. Their two area losses came against the first-place team, Demopolis High School.
Dallas County will travel to Demopolis and face Central High School-Tuscaloosa for game one at 9 a.m. Friday, April 27.
It’s a double elimination bracket, and the top two teams will advance to the South Central Super Regional tournament in Troy.
The Selma High Lady Saints (7-11) finished in third-place in Class 6A Area 5 with a 2-7 area record. Area leader, Stanhope Elmore earned a first-round bye and will host the area tournament.
The Lady Saints will play Chilton County in the first-round Monday at 4:30 p.m. The winner of game one will face Stanhope Elmore immediately after for game two.
The Southside Lady Panthers (1-8) finished in third-place in Class 3A Area 5 behind Prattville Christian Academy and Montevallo High School this season. The Panthers were unable to secure an area win this season, but have an opportunity to keep their season alive with the area tournament Tuesday, May 1 at Prattville Christian Academy.
The Lady Panthers will play against Montevallo at 10 a.m. in game one. The Area 5 bracket games will all be played back-to-back on Tuesday, so the area champion will be decided that evening.
