The TNA Heat fifth-grade team brought back another first-place trophy to Selma after winning the Tuscaloosa Invitational.
“This is our second championship,” coach Marcus Hannah said. “The young men are playing extremely well and working well together. They’re learning the fundamentals of basketball and they’re having a good time. That’s what it’s all about.”
Zachary Moore led the team in scoring for the tournament with 50 points, and he was filed by Miles Hannah who scored 33.
Joshua Davis III (17), Titus Lanier (12), Jamarion Acoff (12) and Jordan Lamar (3) also scored for the Heat in the tournament.
“We have six men on our team, and they all contributed well for us,” Hannah said. “In the last three tournaments, we have gone 9-2.”
The TNA Heat looks to continue their winning ways in the organizations sixth annual Selma Classic this weekend.
More than 40 teams will be playing games in the Wallace Community College Selma and Selma High School gymnasium’s beginning Saturday.
“The age divisions go through the fourth-grade through eleventh-grade,” Hannah said. “We just want the community to come out and support all the young men. We have several outstanding coaches here in Selma that are working with young men and keeping them focused not only on basketball, but also on their books and grades.”
