On Sept. 7, the Coffee Shoppe will be welcoming author Nameicia Craig to its First Friday series.

Craig is a motivational speaker and author of “Girl Affirm Yourself.” Coffee Shoppe owner Jackie Smith said she is happy to feature a local author for the series.

“This First Friday is going to feature a local author,” she said. “She has deep connections to the Selma area.”

Smith said Craig speaks around Atlanta, where she currently resides, about topics centered on the everyday woman.

“She does a lot of inspirational talk, and this is her first book,” she said. “She’s very big on bringing out the whole woman in us women.”

The event will have two parts. There will be a meet and greet from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and then a discussion later in the evening.

“That afternoon, from 6 to 8 p.m., we’re having what’s called ‘fruit and cocktails’, and it’s actually a book signing social,” Smith said. “She’s giving out journals, because she’s really big on journaling and putting your thoughts on paper.”

Smith said the social is time for the guests to engage with Craig and ask questions about different topics.

“It’s going to be a fun girl’s evening out,” she said.

Smith said she will continue to support local business owners and residents.

“Being a local business, I always try to highlight local talent and other local institutions and organizations,” Smith said. “I’m featuring this young lady so that she can be an inspiration to other young girls and ladies. I want everyone to come and talk, fellowship and have fun.”
