Currently, 270 students from 50 Alabama counties study at ASMS, including seven from Dallas County. Those students are: Jabez Edwards, Madeleine Hope, Valerie Johnson, Brianna Miles, Lizziah Murry, JaMya People and Leah Reeves.

“Every resident from Dallas County should be exceedingly proud of these young people,” said ASMS Interim President Dr. John Hoyle. “They’re joining a growing movement of ASMS leaders who are making an impact on our state and world.”

Since the school’s founding in 1989, more than 2,000 students have graduated from ASMS, representing all 67 counties in Alabama. Each graduate has been accepted to college. In the last 18 years, ASMS graduates have earned $225 million in merit-based scholarships. During their time at ASMS, students increase their ACT scores by an average of five to seven points or more. Two out of three graduates are leading in STEM careers, and two in three have pursued graduate degrees. “We’re looking forward to more young leaders from Dallas County joining our community,” Hoyle said. “I am continually impressed by the state’s young people and their innate leadership abilities we hone at ASMS.”

Applications for the next school year are available online at www.asms.net. Current Alabama high school freshmen and sophomores can apply for free, and students are evaluated based on academic success, ACT scores, maturity, essays and recommendations from teachers. The application deadline is Feb. 14, 2019.

Potential applicants and their families can attend information meetings. In Selma, a meeting will be held on Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. at the Wallace Community College – Selma in the Hank Sanders Technology Building Conference Room. The college is located at 3000 Earl Goodwin Parkway.
