The American Legion presented Meadowview Christian School (MCS) with a new American flag at a ceremony on Friday morning.
The school contacted Jesse Sanchez, District Commander of the American Legion’s 31st District, about acquiring a new flag. The school’s old flag was worn out and stained.
Sanchez, a former teacher at MCS, said it’s part of the American Legion’s job to bring out new flags in the area.
“Their flag got beyond usage,” Sanchez said. “It should be replaced and should be displayed properly.”
After Sanchez gave the flag to the MCS Head Master and football coach Bob Taylor, Trojan senior running backs Zack Duke and Austin Little sent the new flag up the flagpole. Sanchez and two other American Legion members, gave a military salute.
“The American flag serves for what American Legion stand for,” Taylor said. “It’s a blessing to have them serve our country.”
Duke and Little both said they were proud to take part in the ceremony.
“It was an honor and a very special event,” Duke said. “It meant a lot to take part in the ceremony.”
“It was cool the American Legion came out and presented the school with a new flag,” Little said.
American Legion member Rennis Howard said he was proud to take part in the ceremony.
“I like to see the American flag flown right,” Howard said.
