Dallas County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director Toya Stiles said Monday a plan is in place if Hurricane Michael affects the area.

At press time, the Hurricane is projected to make landfall as a Category 3 Hurricane Wednesday morning in the Florida Panhandle. A tropical storm watch has been issued for Alabama’s coast and parts of inland south Alabama: Butler, Crenshaw, Conecuh, Monroe, Covington, Baldwin, Mobile, Escambia, Houston, Henry, Dale, Coffee and Geneva counties.

Heavy rainfall is expected to hit Dallas County on Wednesday.

“If anything, it looks like we’ll be getting a lot of rain and wind,” Stiles said. “Right now, our plan is to monitor the hurricane.”

Stiles said shelters will be open to Dallas County residents if the hurricane takes a path and affects the area.
