The Vaughan Regional Medical Center (VMRC) held an open house for its updated Pediatric Unit on Thursday.
New art drawings were on display throughout the unit in addition to new beds and freshly-painted walls.
Two local companies assisted VRMC with the renovation: Frames ‘N Things and Screenco.
VRMC CEO David McCormack credited the Pediatric staff and other hospital workers for their teamwork and dedication.
“What was so great about this is our staff did it all and took pride in their work,” McCormack said. “It was enjoyable to see everyone work together.”
VRMC Director of Pediatrics Karen Bolton said VRMC Director of Physician Relations and Industry Meagan Austin played a big role in the upgrade.
“It was very nice for Meagan to help update and give the unit a fresher look for a more positive environment for the kids,” Bolton said.
VRMC Pediatrician Dr. Samer Assaad has worked at the hospital 20 years and said it was time for an upgrade.
“It’s good to have a new look for the community after 15 years,” Dr. Assaad said. “We improved our system where people don’t have to leave town for services.”
“The upgrade is a great service for our community,” VRMC Pediatrician Dr. Lotfi Bashir said. “The last thing we want is to have parents bring their children in a stressful environment. Families need instantaneous relief.”
Dr. Gillis Payne of Selma Pediatrics, who works at VRMC part-time, said residents should be grateful for the quality of service provided at the hospital.
“These pediatric doctors do a fantastic job,” Payne said. “If the area didn’t have them, what would people do? They’re lifesavers and should be placed on a pedestal.”
