Local Faith Wilkerson took the first step in appearing on the hit television show “America’s Got Talent” by auditioning on Monday at the Cobo Center in Detroit.
Wilkerson and her family had prepared themselves for the possibility of auditioning before the show’s celebrity panel, but the audition took place in front of only one judge.
If Wilkerson moves to the next round, she will appear before celebrity judges Howie Mandel, Mel B, Heidi Klum and Simon Cowell in Los Angeles.
Wilkerson should learn her fate by early next year.
“I was a little nervous but I had a lot of fun,” Wilkerson said of the audition. “It was challenging and very exciting.”
Wilkerson arrived at the Cobo Center around 5:30 a.m. and didn’t audition until after 9 a.m.
During the wait, she had the opportunity to meet people from all across the country seeking their chance at fame, though there were only a few as young as her. Wilkerson is 10 years old.
“It was a really good thing to do,” Wilkerson said. “I’ve never done anything like this before.”
According to her mother, Pandora Blunt, Wilkerson was featured on the front page of the Detroit Free Press for having traveled further than any other competitor.
For her audition, Wilkerson sang “Rise Up” by Andra Day. For her audition, she leaned on the voice lessons she’s been receiving since August at the Montgomery Arts Academy.
“I have confidence in me,” Wilkerson said. “I think I’ll move on.”
