Mamie Williams Solomon was sworn in on Friday as Dallas County School Board District 3 member.
This comes after a primary election win over incumbent Carolyn Bates in June.
Solomon was surrounded by family and friends as Dallas County Probate Judge Kim Ballard recited the oath with Solomon.
“Some of the goals is to continue to improve test scores and morale among the teachers,” she said. “Parent involvement is important as well.”
Solomon has 37 years of experience as a counselor and test coordinator for Selma City Schools.
“My campaign was about being a champion for the students,” she said. “With it, I was positive and looking forward to not only working with the students but the community as well. I want to bring back positive information. There is so much negativity going on, but I believe in having good character and being supportive and honest with everyone. My agenda is for the Dallas County School Board. I don’t have a personal agenda. It is all about the students.”
