Representatives from Sen. Doug Jones’ (D-AL) office in Mobile, which oversees operations for the southwestern portion of the state, reported to the Dallas County Commission last week that Jones is in the process of securing space to open a satellite office in Selma.

According to Dallas County Commissioner Valerie Reubin, the two representatives – Regional Director Al Stokes and Field Representative Donald Dees – briefly attended last Monday’s meeting to inform the commission of the senator’s intention to open an office in the Queen City.

According to Reubin, no space has been secured yet.

Dallas County Commissioner Curtis Williams confirmed Reubin’s account of the representatives’ report.

Stokes and Dees also attended the meeting to congratulate outgoing Dallas County Probate Judge and Commission Chairman Kim Ballard on his years of service.

The West Alabama Watchman, an online news publication, reported in an article over the weekend that Stokes and Dees had informed the Marengo County Commission that Jones had secured space in Selma and was in the process of interviewing candidates for the position of “satellite office coordinator.”

The article also said that organizers hope to open the office within “30-45 days.”

While Jones’ Washington office would not provide details on the proposed office, the Senator’s Chief of Staff Dana Gresham did submit the following statement:

“Senator Jones remains committed to opening an office in Selma.  However, we are working our way through the process and will make a public announcement when more details are available.”

Neither Stokes nor Dees responded to multiple requests for comment
