For Martha Jean Harris, music is her passion that she teaches to young students.

Harris is a Kindergarten through fifth-grade elementary music specialist at Meadowview Elementary School and Cedar Park Elementary School.

The Summerfield native is beginning her 29th year as a music educator.

“Playing piano and teaching piano music to children brings me joy,” she said. “Reading a good mystery as well.”

When not teaching music, she enjoys yard work, gardening, canning and preserving food.

She also fuels her love of music by collecting musical instruments and collecting memorabilia of The King, Elvis Presley.

Her music also extends into the community.

She is a volunteer with the Lions Club, a pianist for Deliverance Gospel Singers and a member of Central Alabama Strummers dulcimer group.

She is also a pianist for her church as well.
