Gloria (Jamie) Mitchell

Gloria (Jamie) Mitchell passed peacefully on Monday, December 31, 2018 at Park Place in Selma.  Jamie was born at Royal Oak, Michigan on August 22, 1930 and was the only child of the late Mabel (Morris) and Leonard Jamieson.  Jamie spent her childhood and received her early education at Harvey Station, New Brunswick, Canada.  She graduated from nursing school in Fredericton, New Brunswick in 1953.  As a Registered Nurse, Jamie worked at locations across Canada and the US including Fredericton, Woodstock, Halifax, Vancouver, Baltimore and Durham before moving to Selma in the early 1970’s.  Jamie was a great lover of animals, member and an ardent supporter of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.  She spent many happy summers in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia and will be missed by her great friends and neighbors both there and in Selma.  She was predeceased by her husband Robert E. Mitchell in 1999.  She is survived by stepchildren Robert, Barbara and their families as well as several Canadian cousins.

Special thanks to friends and caregivers Willie Evans, Lynne Givhan, Miriam Coffee, Lacey Marshall, Johnny Kimbley, George and Mildred Hicks, as well as the staff both at Cedar Hill retirement community and Park Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Home.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home of Selma. There will be no visitation.  A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Wednesday January 9, 2019 at noon. Father Henry Hudson, Priest of St. Paul’s will officiate.  Interment, where she will be reunited with her special four legged friend Bridget, will be at Sandbank Cemetery, New Brunswick, Canada at a later date.
