On Wednesday, you read about the Selma Times-Journal’s selection for volleyball player and coach of the year.
Meadowview Coach Tim Burton and Morgan Academy’s Maggie Colley were chosen for this year’s awards.
Both have worked hard to improve their sport and coaching abilities, and the two have received praise for their hard work.
Former Morgan Academy coach Kayla Thacker said Colley’s unique skill set made things easier for the Lady Senators.
“With Maggie on the back row, she instills a level of confidence and trust in the rest of the team that she’s got the back,” Thacker said. “They count on her to set up the play. She always makes plays happen for other people no matter where the ball hits. She completes plays herself from the back row.”
“I feel so honored to get this award,” Burton said. “It means a lot to have someone think that way of me. It never dawned on me that I’d be considered for coach of the year. I coached sports because all three of my daughters played.”
We are glad these two are in our community and are thankful for the leadership they bring.
