This Sunday, the Selma Art Guild located at 508 Selma Ave. will host local artist Charlie Lucas.

The show will be from 2-4 p.m.

The show will include about 30 pieces of Lucas’ creations and a talk about his history.

There is no charge for the event.

“Charlie Lucas is a nationally known folk artist and his studio is on Lauderdale Street,” said Jo Taylor, who works on promoting the art guild.

“Each piece he creates has a story behind it,” said Taylor. “He takes discarded items and turns them into pieces of art. It is like recreating something into something new. His work is very whimsical very abstract and straightforward and those are the terms I would use for his folk art.”
