Tyree Webster, 19 of Marion Junction, surrendered to the Selma Criminal Investigation Division at 10:30 p.m. on Monday night.

He was processed and then transported to the Dallas County Jail on charges of first-degree robbery, first-degree receiving stolen property, second-degree receiving stolen property and the misdemeanor charge of eluding law enforcement. He is being held on no bond for the first-degree robbery charge, according to a press release.

Selma Police Chief Spencer Collier said Webster surrendered at Selma Police Headquarters without incident.

Collier credited Webster’s family for convincing him to surrender. Additionally, Chief Collier thanked local media outlets for its prompt release of Webster’s photograph, the nature of the serious charges against him and the fact that he was considered a danger to public safety.

“This is a very good example of the media and local law enforcement working cooperatively to convey the seriousness of a crime and the dangerous nature in which law enforcement viewed the suspect,” said Collier. “Thankfully, Webster finally did the right thing and allowed his family to accompany him to surrender.  The Selma Police Department is committed to doing everything necessary to safely apprehend wanted suspects, but we will not tolerate predatory behavior aimed at the citizens of Selma or the unnecessary endangerment of our officers.  I am just happy this situation worked out for the best.”

Collier also notified the State Bureau of Investigation that Webster was in custody.  They are investigating the carjacking in Valley Grande.
